Raheen GAA Presentation

Raheen GAA Club recently held a very successful fundraising event – The Yvonne and Emmet O’Connor Memorial Cycle.  The club has very generously  decided to donate some of the proceeds to local and community organisations, including our school. A cheque for €1000 was presented to the principal on Saturday 28th May. Thanks to everyone in Raheen GAA for their generosity and continued support.

7th Green Flag!

We were delighted to hear a few weeks ago that the school has been awarded its 7th Green Flag by An Taisce. The theme we have all been focusing on for this flag has been Global Citizenship and Energy. Well done to everyone in the school for their work in this area. A special congratulations to Ms. Galvin and our Green School Committee  for leading us all so enthusiastically. The online awards ceremony is taking place on Wednesday 25th May and we are looking forward to being a part of it.

Mental Health Awareness Day and Fundraising Walk in aid of Pieta House

Our Student Council has worked very hard this year on the Amber Flag Programme which promotes positive mental health in schools. As part of this they have organised a Mental Health Awareness Day on Thursday 19th May. All classes will take part in a walk from the school to the GAA pitch and back. Children can make a small donation towards Pieta House if they wish.

Offaly Vex Robotics Championship

Well done to our Robotics team who took part in the Offaly Vex Robotics Championship in O’Connor Park on Friday.  The team has shown great dedication over the last few months, from building and programming their robot to practicing the game and then practicing some more! It was a very wet and miserable day at the event but the team performed very well and should be very proud of their achievements. Thanks to Ms. Galvin, Mrs. Gorman and Mr. Galvin for all their work with the team.

Active School Week 2022

We are all having a wonderful time taking part in this year’s Active School Week.

On Tuesday we started the week with a great variety of activities.  We had Fun & Run with Offaly Sports Partnership, badminton with Judy, soccer league matches at lunchtime, rounders and a Cumann na mBunscol football match. A very busy day!

On Wednesday we did a lot more activities. Our soccer league continued, Peter (one of our parents) visited to do Ju Jutsu, we relaxed doing yoga and had lots of frisbee fun as well.  Mr. Galvin really enjoyed his Ju Jutsu experience!

On Thursday James from our local GAA club, Na Fianna, came to do hurling training with all the classes.  Powercutz Fitness put us all through our paces in the afternoon. There were lots more goals scored in our lunchtime soccer league as well!
We finished Active School Week on Friday with plenty more activity. John from Tullamore Rugby Club did tag rugby with Junior Infants to 2nd Classes while the rest of the school went swimming to Portarlington Leisure Centre.
In the afternoon all classes got the chance to sample some karate thanks to Katie and her dad Ollie, both past pupils.
Thanks to Ms. Leonard, Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Gorman for putting such effort into organising all the wonderful activities this week and well done to all the girls and boys for taking part so enthusiastically.
