The senior classes have been learning about perimeter and area over the last couple of weeks. They have been calculating the area and perimeter of different parts of the classroom.
They have also been learning about the 1916 Rising in History. In English they have been reading the novel The Guns of Easter. They wrote letters based on this work.

3rd to 6th Classes have been going to swimming lessons in Portarlington Leisure Centre for the last three weeks. They are all enjoying them and are making good progress. There are three more lessons left to go.
Junior Infants tasted lots of healthy fruits and vegetables today. They sampled celery, carrot, peppers, mango, pomegranate and lots more. Unfortunately they did not like them all!

3rd and 4th Classes started French lessons with Alex on Thursday. They will continue for the next ten weeks. The lessons are taking place as part of the twinning project between Jaux, a town near Paris, and Geashill, Ballinagar and Ballycommon. See more information about the twinning on this flier.

3rd to 6th Classes have been very active already this January.
Tag rugby began on Wednesday morning. It may have been cold but there was lots of skilful play on show and the children had good fun too.
On Friday, swimming lessons started in Portarlington Leisure Centre. They will continue for the next six weeks.

A big thank you to our wonderful Parents’ Council for organising all the day’s activities.

Our Christmas Play took place in front of a packed church on Tuesday evening. The children from all the classes in the school took part and they all performed brilliantly. Take a look at the photos below. We will post more soon and hopefully we’ll have some videos too.

The children in Junior Infants have been getting into the Christmas spirit. They have been playing in “Santa’s Workshop” and created lovely Art. Our class elf, Jingle, was so impressed he even left a present under our Christmas tree!
