Our Green School Committee organised a litter pick-up all around the village on Friday to mark National Spring Clean 2022. The senior classes donned their gloves and high vis jackets and set about their task very enthusiastically. Well done to everyone for their good work.
We have extended our school garden recently and all our classes will be planting some vegetables in the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Pat and all in Geashill Tidy Towns for their hard work over the Easter holidays.
6th Class continued their preparation for Confirmation by going on a retreat to Mount Saint Anne’s Retreat Centre in Killenard. They enjoyed the day and are now looking forward to their Confirmation on Saturday, 7th May.
Just before Easter 5th and 6th Classes took part in a STEM Primary School Outreach Program in association with Boston Scientific. They had a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into the running of Boston Scientific, Galway. We owe a special thanks to past pupil Keith Quinn and Greg Delahunt who presented so much information to the children. They learned about:
-The importance of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths in the everyday world.
-Devices that are made by Boston Scientific.
-How these devices are inserted into the body.
-The importance of hygiene in a medical manufacturing company.
-How to keep our hearts healthy.
The children had many questions which were answered very clearly by both Keith and Greg. They all enjoyed the presentation very much and we are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part.
This year, we are taking part in the Amber Flag Initiative, run by Pieta. The Amber Flag Initiative aims to encourage schools to promote, and actively bring about a culture change in positive mental health within the educational system and other organisations. The Amber Flag Initiative acknowledges and enhances the already good work that is being carried out, where mental health is concerned, by offering an award, the Amber Flag. After weeks spent building our robots and practising this year’s game, we have selected our team to represent the school at the Offaly Robotics Championship which takes place in O’ Connor Park, Tullamore on May 6th. Well done for making the team and best of luck in the competition.
Our Junior and Senior Infants had great fun using Bee Bots over the last few weeks. A Bee Bot is a programmable bee robot that is designed to be used by children. It can be programmed by using the arrows on its back to move forward, backwards or turn 90 degrees. The basic idea is that young pupils program the Bee Bot to move along a grid or map in order to solve a problem.

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. All classes enjoyed doing a variety of fun activities and of course we all read lots of books.
